Challenge: For more than 70 years, the Western Auto sign has been one of Kansas City’s most recognizable landmarks. But after years of wear and nearly a year in the dark, the sign needed significant restoration to safely return to the skyline while preserving the look and character Kansas Citians know.

Solution: Infinity Sign Systems restored the sign from the inside out, replacing roughly 3,000 bulbs, repairing corroded sockets, restoring nearly 40 sections of red neon and working through the sign’s original mechanical systems to bring its signature animation back to life. The team selected warmer LED bulbs to better match the appearance of the original incandescent lights while improving long-term reliability and efficiency. Working with the Western Auto Lofts Homeowners Association and support from the City of Kansas City’s Illuminate KC initiative, Infinity helped preserve an important piece of the city’s history and ensure the sign can keep shining for years to come.
